How to Fix the World? is a comprehensive and informative documentary about direct action in the 1990s and 2000s, directed by Jouko Aaltonen. In the documentary, anarchists, climate activists, and squatters openly describe their experiences and link them to mainstream phenomena in society. A wide range of archive material sheds a light on the history of direct action and activism in the Finnish society.
The documentary handles different forms of civil activism movements from squatting and protesting to nonviolent civil disobedience. The film portrays global capitalism critique, the fight against the discrimination of the Romani population, the overthrowing of the zero tolerance for graffiti campaign as well as the climate movement.
With rock music in the background, the alternative realities take over the streets of Helsinki and Europe. How to fix the world when it changes, the temperatures rise, and geopolitics get colder? Researcher and writer Eetu Viren, communications professional and activist Suvi Auvinen, and many other influencers, artists, and activists tell their own stories.
